For my front page critique, I chose issue 2, the Homecoming issue. One design flaw that was evident after reading the Harrower manual was that the headline for the Homecoming article was above the photo. The manual states that the headline should be beneath both the photo and the cutline but above the text. This could be found on page 55. On ther other hand, I think the editors made a good choice of picking a strong, dominant picture for the page. It was not your average picture that you would expect from the event, such as Kellie being crowned on the stage. This topic could be seen on page 60 of Harrower. http://www.fremont.k12.ca.us/2199203151847453/lib/2199203151847453/_files/2._11-10-2009.pdf
For my second critique, I used issue 1, page 5. The biggest issue I found with this page was the lack of cropping on the photos. If the editor was going to use the mug shots of the new teachers, they should have used Harrower’s idea of cropping the pictures “ear to ear” on mugshots(pg 50). This gets in close and focuses in on the important part of the picture. A good part of the design would be the proper use of the photo wrap around with text. This could be seen on page 52 of Harrower. http://www.fremont.k12.ca.us/2199203151847453/lib/2199203151847453/_files/October_13,_2010.pdf
